Poultry farming is playing a vital role to boost rural economy of Bogra employing thousands unemployed youths to farming business. About 3,476 registered big and small size poultry farm have been creating jobs for hundreds of unemployed people and boosting rural economy in Bogra.
District Livestock Officer Dr H M Sahafiuzzaman said, the field level officials of the district Livestock department under the supervision of veterinary doctors have been giving Medicare service to get rid of different diseases in the poultry farm as well as to improve the health condition of the poultry birds.
Recently we are facing crisis of man power due to the recent flood. Different disease of the domestic animals has been broken out in the flood affected areas. With a view to giving quick medicare service in these areas, special team has been deported to their areas. But he admitted the crisis of manpower in Livestock department of the district.
In an observation, it has been come to notice that, the only district veterinary hospital of the district is about to standstill due to lack of manpower. The lab of this hospital has become useless having no technician. So the mass people completely devoid from the service of the hospital. Only 25 veterinary field Assistants have been found against 34 posts in the district. Only one upazila livestock assistant is present against the twelve.
Talking to AA Md Safiul Islam, manager of govt. poultry farm Bogra said, "As the production of one day chicken has been promoted, the number of poultry farm has been increased. Due to more production, poultry market is going down. If it is possible to export it in abroad, this industry can be the second profitable sector for the country.
Mr. Narul Amin Leader, President of poultry owner's Association said, about 3 lacks people of the district directly and indirectly associated with poultry industry. He claimed that, poultry industry of the district has come to a good position with only private efforts of the farm owners.
He refused any single credit of the government behind the revolution of poultry industry in the district. He claimed that, the state run banks as well as the other financial institutions are unwilling to provide loans to the farm owners. Invalid and low slandered medicine and feeds are available in the market. But the authority is silent in this matter, he said.
In spite of many crises, poultry industry has shown a way to hundreds of unemployed youths and given significant boost to the rural economy in the district. If the problems can be solved, this industry can be a great profitable sector to the country.
The local poultry farmers said, they have been making good profit for the last few years as they got sufficient supports from the local livestock department.
