Bangabandhu nationalized pry education: Iqbal Sobhan Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury

Prime Minister's Media Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury yesterday said Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had nationalized primary education in the country.

"After the Liberation War, Bangabandhu nationalized 37,000 primary schools side by side with absorbing more than one lakh teachers in government service," he told a discussion at Jatiya Press Club VIP lounge here, said a press release.

Bangladesh Primary School Assistant Teachers' Association organized the discussion on "Bangabandhu and Primary Education" marking the Mourning Day. Iqbal Sobhan said if Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was not assassinated, the country's education system would have developed further.

Bangabandhu's daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has put emphasis on primary education as she nationalized more 26,000 primary schools and also increased the salary scale of government employees.

Member of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Primary and Mass Education Ministry Nazrul Islam Babu addressed the function as special guest while Bangladesh Primary School Assistant Teachers' Association General Secretary Sabera Begum gave the welcome speech.
