Nearly 225 leaders and activists of Awami League and its front organizations were killed and hundreds of workers incurably injured during the successive tenures of the ruling party due to in-fights of the party as well as the disarray of organizational management together with seditious political culture.
The fact is that the aggrieved families are being deprived of getting judicial trial because of using injudicious influence to save the killers and party cadres and to some extent, such criminal party cadres are getting special privileges from the party leaders and the government, the victims' family members have alleged.
According to Ain O Salish Kendro (legal aid and arbitration centre), from 2009 to June, 2017 a total of 225 leaders and activists were killed across the country due to in-fights of the party, but in most cases the killers remain immune from punishment and they are leading normal life before the eyes of law enforcers.
AL student wing central Organizing Secretary Moniruzzaman Badal was shot dead in front of Shamsunnahar Hall of Dhaka University. It happened near the venue of Bangladesh Chhatra League's (BCL) founding anniversary meeting arranged on the premises of DU in January, 2009. The killers were identified as BCL activists of a rival faction, but all of them are still free from punishment, deceased Badal's family members alleged.
On March 31 in 2009, Dhaka Medical College BCL General Secretary Abul Kalam Rajeeb was brutally killed in the college hostel by factional student leaders--Bidyut Barua and Rony. A case was filed with Lalbagh police station accusing 11 students. The killer Bidyut Barua has been elected AL General Secretary of Denmark unit.
In 2009, around 50 leaders and activists were killed in Jessore district only in party in-fights. On January 15 of 2014, Jessore City Jubo League Organizing Secretary was killed. On September 26 In 2013, Union Council Chairman and former BCL district committee President Jillur Rahman Mintu was assassinated in Jhikargachha.
Benapole AL leader and Putkhali Union Council Chairman Abdur Razzak was killed on March 24, 2013. But all the criminals involved in the killing still remain free from punishment. In AL student wing's in-fights 10 leaders and workers were killed in Chittagong in 2009. In Bogra 45 AL leaders and activists were killed during the successive tenures of the ruling party.
