Members of 'Gram Police' staged a sit-in demonstration in the city on Sunday to press home their four-point demands including pay similar to class four government employees. Hundreds of protesters took part at the program under the banner 'Bangladesh Gram Police Kormochari Union' in front of Jatiya Press Club. We will observe a hunger strike program on Central Shaheed Minar premises on 23 March, one of their leaders MA Naser said. He also threatened for tougher movement if their demands were not met soon.  A Gram Police (village police) hailing from Natore said the wage they get from the government and Union Parishad is not sufficient. "We get Tk 1500 from Union Parishad and Tk 1500 from the government once in every three months. It is really tough to run the families with such a tiny amount, Zila commander Taleb told reporters. "We are also discharging our duties like the other law enforcing agencies but being treated poorly," he alleged adding that if their salary get the level of class four government employees, it would ease their problems.  The other demands are- retirement allowance, abolition of several discriminations and food rationing.
