Education Engineering Department (EED) has implemented massive development works across the country according to the instructions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Since the inauguration of e-tender, the department has gained a great success in implementing its development activities without any official hassle and illegal tender business, and also protected transparency during submitting tenders, tender evaluation and ordering works.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina emphasized education for all and making all the educational institutions more beautiful, attractive and based on modern technology with research friendly environment. Prime Minister ordered the related departments to infrastructural development of all the schools, colleges, madrasahs and universities.

With the assistance of administration and the authorities of educational institutions, EED has been implementing the developing institutions in full speed. EED has completely become free from brokers. The officers of the department are happier than ever. The promotions are being done electronically. Over 38 zonal offices have been working to collect tenders from all over the country.

Under the Ministry of Education, EED has been constructing new school buildings, modern classrooms, hostels etc. The department is also repairing and reconstructing risky buildings.

EED was established by the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1972 when it was named 'Facilities Department'. In 2002 the name was changed to Education Engineering Department. But several illegal and unethical activities were going on during that period.

Brokers, miscreants hampered tender process, which delayed the implementation of any construction work. All those have disappeared since the inaugural of e-tender system. According to EED sources, there are 33,021 government and non-government educational institutions right now.

From 1991-96, the BNP-Jamaat government developed 2,721 educational institutions whereas Awami League Government developed 7,152 educational institutions.  EED sources said AL government took initiative to establish buildings of 12,499 government and non-government educational institutions in 2009. Till date, 10,011 buildings have been established. Construction work of another 2,488 buildings is going on in full swing.

From 2009, AL government has established five new universities and three engineering colleges. Construction work of 100 technical schools is going on. In second phase, another 389 technical schools will be established.

On the other hand, the 2,000 madrasha construction plan is under process. In this current fiscal year ministry of education and department of education are hopeful to build 773 educational institutions. Over 5,000 school buildings will be repaired with 708 institutions to be extended as well.

The present chief engineer Dewan Mohammad Hanzala took the responsibility of EED in 2014. After his appointment the department has become more active. He has been praised by the government's higher authority for his activities at the department.

Some miscreants submitted a writ against the contractual appointment of Dewan Mohammad Hanzala. But they will not be successful to snatch his reputation Md Dewan Mohammad Hanzala said.
