The project work of Mongla-Khulna railway track which includes construction of a railway bridge on the Rupsha river is going on in full swing. 27.5 percent of the total work has already been completed. Executive Engineer of Railway Bridge project Abdur Rahim said, piling work in the river for construction of bridge was progressing fast and the whole process might be completed by next June.
On October 15, a 52-meter length pile load test was successfully finished, he also said. Earlier, land acquisition, survey, soil test and mud digging were done, he said, adding that the bridge will be connected to Putimari road on the west bank and Rupsha road on the east bank of the river.
The Khulna-Mongla Railway Line project has been taken up jointly by the India and Bangladesh governments at a projected cost of Tk 3,801.61 crore. A total of 64.75 km broad-gauge line, 21.11 km loops, 4,413 km approach roads, 7.18 km Railway Bridge on the Rupsha river and 8 railway stations will be constructed under the project.
Project Director Md. Muzibur Rahman said after the completion of the project, economic activities and trading between India, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh will increase significantly.
Local people said, this rail track will open a new door of development in south region of the country. This will open a new phase of business and flourish the local trade countrywide.
