Publisher Tanvir missing


A publisher went missing for three days as some unknown people introducing themselves as members of law enforcement agency picked him up.The victim was identified as Tanvir Yasin, Publi-sher of Karim Internatio-nal Publication and resident at Gulshan in the city.

But, police claim that, they don't have any information about him that mounts tension to the victim's family. The toll of missing ones is becoming longer day by day creating panic to the peace loving people in the society. Crime specialists consider that, such trend has now become a grave concern for the social security.

Concerned authorities should take stern actions right now against such illegal acts including kidnapping, secrete killing and enforced disappearance. Victim's family sources said: "Police wearing uniform and plain clothes raided his house in the city's Gulshan area on Wednesday last and picked him up. Later, he was not found at anywhere even police stations and hospitals after searching. 

Locals said that Tanvir used to stay at home mostly. Recently, he had gone missing as some people introducing themselves as police picked him up creating panic and agitation among the locals. But, victim's family is yet to file any GD with the police station in connection with the incident. Moshtak Ahmed, De-puty Commissioner of DMP Gulshan Zone said, "We don't have any complain about picking him up by police. Alongside, victim's family did not inform the matter to them so far, even they did not file any General Diary (GD).

According to the statistic of Human Rights Watch, at least 90 persons of the city went missing in 2016, while the missing toll rose to 42 only in five months of the current year. People from all walks of life including businessman, layer, publisher, journalist, teacher and intellectual are being added with the list of missing or enforced disappearance.

Earlier on October 7, North South University teacher Mobashwar Hasan was picked up in almost similar technique from Agargaon in the city. But, he is yet to be rescued by police. On October 27, miscreants in the guise of law enforcers picked up Bangladesh Janata Party's President Mithun Chowdhury and its central leader Ashik Ghos from the city's Sutrapur area.

Alongside, BNP leader and businessman Shadat Ahmed went missing on August 22, while Aminur Rahman, Secretary General of Kalyan Party and businessman Anirudha Roy went missing on August 27. Journalist Utpal Das has been remained missing from October 10.

Law teacher and crime analyst Hafizur Rahman Curzon said, "Such incident is a threat for citizen's security. Such type of incident spreads panic among the people and brings restriction on public movement.Dr Iftekharuzzaman, Executive Director of TIB said, "If such incidents continue one after another police's competency will be questioned. Law enforcers should conduct fair investigation to rescue them and bring the criminals to book."
