In the 1970's Bangladesh, Dhallywood film industry was glowing with talented directors and actors. Even with limitations, some great movies were produced. However, the industry was not able to give different genre films to the audience compared to India. Indian film industry had action, romantic, social, historical-all genre of films and was flourishing. On the other hand, Dhallywood industry was limited to social, romantic and fantasy genre film.
Every film had compelling story, heartwarming songs, excellent acting and directing, still something was missing. Back then, Nayokraj Razzak was already on voyage to becoming a legend, he felt the necessity of having action scene in the Bangladeshi films. However, nobody was ready back then to take the risk to do action scenes. Razzak went to actor and director late Jahirul Haque who was a newbie director that time. The duo decided that they will make a social action film that Razzak will produce and Jahirul Haque will direct.
The journey of becoming a producer for Razzak began. He combined his and his wife's name and titled his production company as Rajlokkhi Productions. The first film of this film was that social action film, titled Rongbaaj. Rongbaaj not only became successful in the Dhallywood box office but it was considered the first ever action film in Bangladesh. It also opened the door to the action genre film Bangladesh is so accustomed now.
The story of the Rongbaaz followed a local goon named Raj who was involved in pick pocketing, racketeering and other small time crimes. He used to live in a slum. Now, there was a girl in that slum named Mala who loved Raja very much. One day, Raja pickpockets a man who just got his salary. As all of his money was gone, the man couldn't pay the rent and was humiliated by the landlord and creditors.
Later he loses his job. The man had a wife who later soothed his sorrows. On another day, Raja almost gets caught in the hand of public while pickpocketting and ran. He takes shelter to that man he pickpocketed earlier and his wife saves him from getting beaten. Later a sweet brother-sister relationship emerges between them.
The man leaves his wife as he was unable to get a new job and promises that he will not return until he gets a new job. The wife falls into deep trouble. The landlord tries to humiliate her and Raj comes to rescue. Raj then takes the wife to his home and later gave up all the bad habits.
But on the other hand, Mala who loved Raja very much starts to doubt him that he might have feelings for that wife. After much twist and turns, it reveals that Raja has an wonderful heart and he knows to respect each person in his life.
The film casted Razzak as Raj, Kabori Sarwar as Mala, Rozi Siddiki as the wife and Anwar Hossain as the common service holder man.
