President Abdul Hamid on Sunday is going to visit Kutupalong Rohingya camp in Ukhiya upazila of Cox's Bazar and also inaugurate a programme of the Bangladesh Navy there.

"In the afternoon, Abdul Hamid will also distribute relief materials among the displaced Rohingyas, who took shelter inside Bangladesh territory being the worst victims of the crackdown carried out by the Myanmar military force," President's Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told UNB.

The President will speak to the Rohingya people and listen to their stories of plights during his two-day visit at Cox's Bazar, he said.

Abdul Hamid is scheduled to visit the Rohingya camp at the moment when Bangladesh has signed a deal with Myanmar for Rohingyas' repatriation.

A Foreign Ministry source said since August 25 of 2017, more than 600,000 Rohingyas took shelter in Bangladesh. These displaced people are traumatised, hungry and some of them are with injuries caused by gunshots, shrapnel, fire and landmines.

Earlier, on several occasions, 400,000 Rohingyas had been forced to take shelter in Bangladesh. Altogether Bangladesh is currently hosting over a million Rohingyas, the sources added.

On the next day, President Hamid will inaugurate Indian Ocean Naval Symposium' (IONS) Multilateral Maritime Search Rescue Exercise -2017 (IMMSARFEX-2017) at Hotel Royal Tulip adjacent to the Unani Beach of Cox's Bazar, said a spokesman of Bangladesh Navy.

He said warships, navy chiefs, concerned high officials and maritime experts of some 32 countries, including nine observers, will attend the programme.

President will return to Bangabhaban in the afternoon day after tomorrow, the press secretary added.
