A Korean national DK Hwang, uploaded a series of videos in his facebook timeline captured during the option Thunderbolt operation by Bangladesh Army, has gone viral through the social media. The video shows that a person smoking in front of 2 attackers at 2nd floor and which clearly indentified that the man has baldness in his head at Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan, Dhaka on Saturday morning. Other part of the video series shows that the man chatting with the attackers and it seems that he is advising them something. Lastly, another part of the video shows that the man leaving with some other hostages from Holey Artisan Bakery.
Now the question is, who is that man?
DK Hwang, who uploaded the video, has mentioned that the man was one of the terrorists and he left the place as a hostage. In a search for the man, The Asian Age finds that the man is none but Hasnat H Karim, son of Engr Rezaul Karim, owner of Basic Engineering located at Banani. Hasnat was a teacher of North South University (NSU) who taught Business Communication.
Taufique Chowdhury, a student of NSU, has confirmed that the man (Hasnat H Karim) was in Business Communication department. In his facebook post he (Taufique) wrote, "He was one of the most boring faculties. Now something smells fishy?" It was said, Hasnat H Karim suffers from cancer disease. In 2009, he left Bangladesh for England and had gone out of scene for a long time. Recently he has returned and joined NSU. "The person is at DB office for integration," wishing anonymity a highly placed CID source told The Asian Age adding that the law enforcers did not arrest him.
"He is being asked about the incident which may lead to further investigation," he added. But the official could not mention how long the 'detainee' would be kept for quizzing. After SITE Intelligence Group published photos of five gunmen who, the Islamic State claims, killed at least 20 persons, mostly foreigners, in a cafe in Bangladesh capital Dhaka, former classmates have identified the attackers with the help of the social media.
Three of the five attackers have so far been spotted. One of them, Nibras Islam, has been recognized by his former classmates in North South University. An expatriate Bangladeshi has posted on Facebook a photo of one Mir Sabih Mubashsher along with the photo of an attacker. He quoted one of Mubashsher's classmates in Scholastica School in Dhaka as saying that he had gone missing in March before his A-Level exam.
One Mahbub Rajib posted a family photo of Rohan Imtiaz from the Scholastica, known as a school for the children of the well-to-do persons in Dhaka. Terrorism observer group SITE published the photos of the attackers on Saturday night. Police have also released photos of the gunmen killed during the raid. Four persons seemed to be in both sets of photos published by police and IS.
It is not clear whether the other photo published by police is of the same person whose photo IS released. A woman named Johra Begum holds up a photo of her brother-in-law Saiful, a staff of the Holey Artisan Bakery, who had been missing since the attack on the Gulshan eatery on Friday. Unfortunately the family later identified Saiful's body at CMH on Saturday and the photo matched with the attackers disclosed by the police. Police chief AKM Shahidul Hoque said five of the dead gunmen were listed militants and the police had been looking for them.
Police identified them as: 'Akash', 'Bikash', 'Don', 'Bandhon', and 'Ripon'. However, mysteriously the facebook ID of the attackers has gone down after midnight on Sunday. Holey Artisan Bakery, the café in Dhaka's upscale diplomatic hub of Gulshan, came under attack on Friday night by gunmen who shouted 'Allahu Akbar' while launching the assault. Army commandos stormed the eatery on Saturday morning and rescued 13 hostages, killing six attackers and arresting another.
