HC benches for crime, graft cases

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the country Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain has reorganized 58 benches of the court for establishing justice and fairplay in the judiciary system. He restructured the benches of the High Court on Wednesday, sources in the Supreme Court said.

From now onward, the following benches of the high court division will hear the writ petitions of the courts, the sources said. Separate benches were constituted for the graft cases of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday.

The sources said that the full benches of Justice Syed Mohammad Dastagir and Justice Iqbal Karim, Justice Tarikul Hakim and Justice Md Suhrawar-dhy, Justice Zinnat Ara and Justice Mohiuddin Shamim, Justice Syed Refat Ahmed and Justice Md Salim, Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Mohammad Ali, Justice Jubair Rahman Chowdhury and Justice Shashangka Shekhar Sarker, Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice S M Moniruzzaman, Justice Naima Haider and Justice Khijir Ahmed Chowdhury, Justice F R M Nazmul Ahsan and Justice K KM Quamrul Kader, Justice Mainul Islam Chowdhury, Justice Gobinda Chandra Thakur and Justice Mohammad Ullah, Justice Sheikh Hasan Arif and Justice Rajik Al Jalil, Justice J B M Hasan and Justice Md Khairul Alam will herar the writs petitions.

The singal bench of Justice Abu Tarik, Justice Md Rais Uddin, Justice Abu Bakr Siddique, Justice Md Shawkat Hossain, Justice Kazi Rezaul Haque, and the full benches of Justice A K M Asaduzzaman and S M Mojibur Rahman, Justice Md Emdadul Haque and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman, Justice Sheikh Abdul Awal and Justice Bishmadeb Chakroborty, Justice Mainul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Khizir Khayet, Justice Obaidul Hasan and Justice S M Kuddus Zaman, Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mustafizur Rahman, Justice M Farook and Justice Md Riazuddin, Justyice Krishna Debnath and Justice Md Shahidul Karim, Justice N M Bashir Ullah and Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam, Justice Md Abu Zafar Siddiqui and Justice Khandoker Diliruzzaman, Justice Jahangir Hossain and Justice Md Jahangir Hossain, Justice Habibul Gani and Justice Md Baruzzaman, Justice Md Ruhul Quddus and Justice A S M Abdul Mobin, and full bench of Justice Bhabani Prashad Singh and Justice Kamrul Hossain will hear all the civil cases at the High Court, the sources said.

Chief Justice Syed Mahmudul Hossain has also given the jurisdiction of hearing other cases including the cases of civil, Anti Corruption Commission and on other matters to the honorable other justices of the high court, the sources said.These single benches and the full benches of the high court will start their functioning from next Sunday, the sources added. 

When contacted, former Law Minister Barrister Shafiq Ahmed said that the newly constituted High Court benches, especially the benches for the cases of Anti-Commission Commission will help dispose of the cases rapidly.

There are a number of graft cases pending in court, he said adding that new constituted graft benches will solve the crisis in due time.

Reputed jurist Barrister Shadeen Malik declined to comment on the restructuring of the benches. He said that any comment on the matter would create problems for clients in court.
