Former chief justice Surendra Kumar Sinha has said that he is living in the United States like a refugee. He has sought political asylum in US, he stated while speaking in a press conference in the National Press Club, Washington on Saturday during the launching of his book "A Broken Dream: Rule of Law, Human Rights and Democracy."

SK Sinha further said that nobody offered him any sort of help or backup for the publication of his book. SK Sinha said he has depicted his experience and aim regarding Bangladesh's judicial system and judicial independence in the book.

He said while speaking to the audiences in the National Press Club, Washington, "I did not get any cooperation from anyone for publishing my book. Even I could not get it edited by any professional editor due to lack of money. That's why the book contains several errors."

SK Sinha said that his US visa has expired. His status is now equal to that of a refugee, he added. He told that he has been invited by the House of Commons, England and from Geneva and European Union as well but he cannot visit those places because of the expiry of his US visa.

SK Sinha has sought political asylum from the US administration and has requested for visa extension according to his remarks during the press conference.
