Protest over corruption in Rooppur Power Plant

An organization named Bangladesh Gono Oikya formed a human chain in front of National Press Club in Dhaka on Monday protesting the alleged corruption in Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant. The participants of the human chain held pillows in their hands symbolizing their protest.

Speakers at the human chain said that immense corruption and irregularities are going on in every sector. They referred to Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant as an instance of mammoth graft and plundering. The young generation of Bangladesh is disappointed at the uncontrolled form of corruption in the country, they said.

The excessive prices of different commodities purchased for Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant show the brazen extent of corruption and financial anarchy, Arman Hossain Palash, President of Bangladesh Gono Oikya said while addressing the human chain.

Another leader of the organization Rakibul Islam Ripon said that the glorious Liberation War of 1971 was fought to eliminate discrimination, injustice and all other types of disorder. He blamed the ruling authorities for taking away people's freedom of speech and voting right. The leaders at the human chain also talked about the sufferings of farmers who grow rice. Farmers are being deprived of the right price for their agricultural products, they remarked.
