Role of school in socialization

Children must gather knowledge through their life as they are in love with their life and more importantly, it is their first love. All we need is to develop a passion for learning in them and if we succeed, they will never cease to grow! The role of school in children's life is immensely important as school plays a dynamic role building their socialization skills to a great extent.

As we know four of the most influential agents of socialization during that phase of our lives are the family, school, peers, and mass media. Family is usually considered to be the most important agent of socialization while our peers give us chance to develop many of the social skills we need later in life.

Schools act as an agent of socialization through the hidden curriculum. According to sociologists, the hidden curriculum is an unintended result of education. It is the process by which the norms and values of a society are taught to children, alongside the expectations of their individual society.

Socialization is the process of learning how to become part of a culture. Through socialization one learns the culture's language, their role in life, and what is expected from them. Socialization is a very important process in the forming of personality. It occurs when one interacts with other people.

Schools help to mold a diverse population into one society with a shared national identity and prepare future generations for their citizenship roles. Students are taught about laws and our political way of life through civic lessons, and they're taught patriotism through rituals such as saluting the flag.

Student responsibility is demonstrated when students make choices and take actions which lead them toward their educational goals. Responsible students take ownership of their actions by exhibiting the following behaviors. They demonstrate academic integrity and honesty. That's why probably the most famous line we have got from Albert Einstein is that "Any fool can know. The point is to understand."

Undoubtably School life is very important part of one's life, because it provides opportunity for study and discipline and more importantly how see things from a different perspective and understand and implement individual way. Besides these, the school life is a preparatory stage for entering public life. School plays an important role in widening the outlook of students. ... School is a meeting place of students and teachers.

In terms of socialization, the school has, in recent years, come to take over some of the formes functions of the family and community i.e. the school has become a primary agency of socialization. The school is the first large-scale organization of which the child becomes a member. The school is a miniature reflecting on what goes on in the wider society.

One way of appreciating the school's potential for socialization lies in the simple reckoning of the amount of times the youngsters spend in school and in activities related to the school. The youngsters spend the major part of their active hours of the day in school, from morning to evening in case of a day school and boarding schools they stay for duration of about nine months in a year.

Obviously, during this time student acquires a lot from the teachers and fellow students. Due to this fact the school becomes an important agent of socialization.

The school is said to be next to the family in terms of importance as far as socialization is concerned. The school combines the formal (e.g. classroom teaching, fines caning, suspension expulsions official mention, prices) and informal (e.g. peer group influences/ pressure) approaches in its socializing function.

Education will train useful citizens who will obediently confirm to society's norms and will accept the role and status that society will confer upon them when they have finished their schooling. Since children come from different backgrounds, the work of the school therefore is to intercept and change or   modify those aspects which may not be acceptable to the community. At the same time, those aspects of training which are meaningful are encouraged. Most of the informal learning occurs mainly within the pees group setting. The peer groups affect the socialization process both in school and in the neighborhood.

The school represents a formal and conscious effort by the society to socialize its young. It does this through the content of the curriculum and co-curricular activities. They also socialize the values that they communicate to the child. Teachers also act as m

odels for students. In school the child learns skills which to a large extent prepare him for the world of work. There is a great effect of parent involvement in schools have and its much needed indeed.

Parent involvement in education is crucial. No matter their income or background, students with involved parents are more likely to have higher grades and test scores, attend school regularly, have better social skills, show improved behavior, and adapt well to school.
