BD should join BRI

Says Rehman Sobhan


Professor Rehman Sobhan, Chairman of Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD) has said that the One Belt One Road (OBOR) initiative would lead to a new global economic system.

He made this remark while addressing a seminar titled, "The Belt and Road Initiative and the New International Economic Order" at National Press Club in Dhaka on Saturday.

Workers Party organized the event.Sobhan said that the third world countries including Bangladesh should join the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) for their own economic interest. He further said that the world's economic hub is located in Asia which is being led by China.

He stated that China is interested to spend its surplus money for the infrastructural development of the third world. He commented that some people say OBOR is China's debt trap and refer to Pakistan and Sri Lanka. He added that Pakistan's economy has faced damages due to high expenditure on its military forces.

Rehman Sobhan also said that economic discrimination is prevailing in Bangladesh. The program was addressed by former Secretary Enam Ahmed Chowdhury, Professor Mainul Islam, Workers Party General Secretary Fazle Hossain Badshah and some other discussants.
