No holding tax rise: DNCC Mayor

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will not raise the holding tax in the 2016-17 fiscal year, said its Mayor Annisul Huq yesterday.
"Holding tax fixed for new and old houses and buildings won't be increased, but some measures will be taken to bring equality in holding taxes," he said while announcing the DNCC budget for fiscal 2016-17 at a city hotel.The DNCC proposed a Tk 2,083 crore budget for the 2016-17 fiscal year against Tk 1601 crore for FY2015-16.Annisul said the DNCC managed to implement 63 percent of budget last year. "We'll be able to implement 80percent to 83 percent of the budget in the fiscal year 2016-17."
He said the DNCC set a target to collect Tk 948 crore as revenue in the new fiscal against Tk 557 crore in the 2015-2016 fiscal. About the achievements he achieved in the first year of his stint, the DNCC mayor said he has been trying to accomplish things, which he had sincerely promised in his election manifesto. "What I did in the past one year is less visible, but you'll see huge changes in the next two years," he said. The DNCC father said 500 more CCTV cameras will be installed in the city under his ambit. "The entire north city will be brought under CCTV coverage within the next one year." As part of the efforts to turn the city into a green and clean one, Annisul said, the DNCC has so far established 58 secondary transfer stations (STS) for environment-friendly waste management.
