Congress urges Modi to exclude Xi from G20 Summit

China has released a map showing Aksai Chin and Arunachal Pradesh as parts of its territory. Congress has asked the Indian government to 'seriously introspect' whether it should host China for the G20 summit in India after Beijing released a new map showing Aksai Chin and Arunachal Pradesh as part of its territory.

Congress leader Manish Tewari said, 'The absurdity and preposterousness of the Chinese claim is evidenced by the history of the Sino-Indian border dispute. Today, the real issue between India and China is that they have transgressed along the Line of Actual Control at multiple points on a theatre level. Under those circumstances, the government should seriously introspect whether it would be in accordance with India's self-respect to befitting a person in Delhi - Xi Jinping - who is in illegal occupation of 2000 square kilometers of Indian territory.'

Congress leader and former Union Minister Manish Tewari further said, "A short history of the India-China Border issue. China's claims on Arunachal Pradesh are absurd, illogical and historically incorrect. China has no claim on Arunachal Pradesh. Outstanding issue between India and China is vacation of illegal territory occupied since-April 2020."

The new development has come after Beijing had announced in April that it will "standardize" names of 11 places in Arunachal Pradesh. Also the release of the map has come at a time when the New Delhi G20 summit is less than a fortnight away, which the Chinese President Xi Jinping is also expected to attend.
The G20 summit is scheduled to be held between September 9 and 10.

India has always asserted that Arunachal Pradesh has "always been" and will "always be" an integral part of India.
