Buses torched in capital's Kakoli and Tatibazar

Two buses were set on fire in Tatibazar and Kakoli areas of the capital on Wednesday on the first day of the third phase of blockade announced by Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and likeminded parties.

A bus was set on fire by miscreants at Tanti Bazar in the Old Dhaka on Wednesday night.

The bus of "Dishari Paribahan" was torched around 7:25pm, according to a duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence control room.
On information, two fire engines rushed to the spot around 7:33pm and doused the blaze. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
Meanwhile, a minibus was set on fire in front of Kakoli Police camp, Banani around 8:08pm, according to fire service sources.

All types of long-haul buses to the northern and southern regions of the country have been halted due to the third round of blockade called by the BNP and like-minded opposition parties.

However, public transport, trains and launches were seen plying in Dhaka during the 48-hour protest, which began early Wednesday morning, blocking roads, rail and waterways. Road traffic is increasing as the day progresses. While there is limited traffic movement in the morning, traffic on roads and highways is also increasing as the day progresses.

From 8:30am, public transport, including Victor Classic, Shikor, Dishari, Thikana, and Moumita, operated in Dhanmondi, Panthapath, Karwan Bazar, Banglamotor, Kantaban, Shahbagh, Nightingale Mor, Paltan, Kakrail, Motijheel, and Arambagh areas. From 11am to 2:30pm, Ajmeri Glory and Midlai buses were observed near Kamalapur, Gulistan, Press Club, Moghbazar, Hatirjheel, Tejgaon, and Mohakhali. After 12pm, transportation activity increased on these routes.
