Zero tolerance policy over negligence in hospital services: Health Minister

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Samanta Lal Sen said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed him to follow a zero tolerance policy regarding quality of hospital services. He said this while briefing journalists on contemporary issues at the secretariat on Sunday. Samanta Lal went on saying: "I must follow directives of the Prime Minister. We do not want to stop legalizing private hospitals, clinics or diagnostics centres but sufficient doctors, nurses and necessary equipment must be ensured to run them".

''I must comply with zero tolerance to take stringent action if it is not followed'' he added.
The minister disclosed that as many as 1,227 illegal clinics and diagnostics centre have been shut by one month and drives against such organizations will go on.

Replying to a query Dr. Samanta Lal Sen said "I am thinking about the health protections of patients as well as thinking about doctors' protection".
Good doctors are needed for better treatment but it is true that without smart facilities good doctors will not be available, he commented.

In reply to another query, the Health Minister came up with the words that ensuring quality treatment facilities will not be possible alone. However, doctors, police, journalists and everyone should come forward with help.

Moreover, the minister further told reporters that already a three member committee has been formed by the Health Ministry to unearth the recent unnatural deaths of two children and a man. After getting investigation report we will go for the next course of action, he added.

At that time Health Services Division Secretary Jahangir Alam, DG Health Dr. ABM Khurshid Alam, BMA President Dr. Mustafa Jala Mohiuddin, Health Affairs Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Dr. Rokeya Sultana, BMDC President Dr. Mahmudul Hasan and among others were present at the event.
