The government on Sunday appointed Zakir Hossain Chowdhury and Md Kabir Ahmed as Deputy Governors of Bangladesh Bank (BB). The Financial Institutions Division under the Ministry of Finance issued a notification over the appointments yesterday. Their appointments will remain effective for three years from the date of joining.
Zakir Hossain Chowdhury and Md Kabir Ahmed currently hold the position of Executive Directors at the central bank.
After the downfall of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on 5 August 2024, two Deputy Governors of the central bank, Kazi Sayedur Rahman and Khurshid Alam stepped down.
In response, the government formed a search committee on 12 August 2024, led by former Comptroller and Auditor General Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury, to fill the vacant positions.
