Dr. Asif Nazrul, Law and Justice Adviser to the interim government stated that elections would be held as soon as possible after implementing some essential reforms. He made the remark on Tuesday at a press conference titled "100 Days of the Interim Government: Explanations from the Ministry of Law" held at the Secretariat.
When asked by a journalist about the duration of the interim government, and about the election date, Dr. Asif Nazrul replied, "This is not a matter for the Ministry of Law. However, I can inform you that after implementing some necessary reforms, we will hold elections as soon as possible."
Referring to previous fraudulent elections, he emphasized, "We do not want a repeat of the fake elections of the past. And we do not want anyone to have the opportunity to conduct fraudulent elections after being independent." He added that the government has no interest beyond this.
Dr. Asif Nazrul further noted that most members of the current government are eager to return to their respective professions as quickly as possible.
It is worth mentioning that the interim government, led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus, was formed on August 8 following the fall of the fascist Awami League government amid a student-led uprising. At the press conference marking the government's 100 days, the legal advisor presented the ministry's activities.
