The world’s longest sea beach, Cox’s Bazar, host a seven-day beach carnival and tourism fair to mark World Tourism Day on September 27 every year.
Cox’s Bazar is a town on the southeast coast of Bangladesh. It’s known for its very long, sandy beachfront, stretching from Sea Beach in the north to Kolatoli Beach in the south. Aggameda Khyang monastery is home to bronze statues and centuries-old Buddhist manuscripts. South of town, the tropical rainforest of Himchhari National Park has waterfalls and many birds. North, sea turtles breed on nearby Sonadia Island.

Cox's Bazar Beach, one of the most popular tourist attractions in Bangladesh, is the longest uninterrupted natural beach in the world. Located 150 km (93 mi) south of the city of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar is also known by the name Panowa, which translates literally as "yellow flower." An old name was "Palongkee."

It has been captivating visitors, both at home and abroad. The annual event blends cultural celebrations, art performances and a focus on ecotourism to showcase the country’s rich traditions and the natural beauty of its lesser-explored regions.

The festival highlights the town’s ecotourism, celebrating its expansive grasslands, majestic elephants and the vibrant traditions of the indigenous Panowa people.

Cox's Bazar lies on a coastal plain in the southeastern corner of Bangladesh. It is located 150km south of the industrial port of Chittagong. It takes nearly an hour flying or about four hours by bus travelling nearly 400km from the capital Dhaka.

Stretching a remarkable length of more than 120km, Cox's Bazar is the longest natural sea beach in the world and was nominated as one of the “New 7 Wonders of Nature” in 2008.

The name Cox’s Bazar was derived from its founder, Captain Hiram Cox, who founded the beach in 1798.

Most of Cox's Bazar is 200m wide at high tide, and 400m wide at low tide. This Bay of Bengal beach is a popular tourist spot attracting droves of locals and foreign tourists, even in off season.

“The annual festival aims to showcase the unique ecotourism offerings of the beach while preserving its cultural heritage,” said Ms. Anideepa, a resident of Cox’s Bazar. “Our mission is to bring attention to lesser-known towns and promote their beauty to the world.”

In addition to dramatic performances, the celebrations feature traditional buffalo slaughter ceremonies conducted by the Panowa, offering a rare glimpse into their spiritual practices and community celebrations.

The event promises a rich cultural experience over three days, each with its own distinct theme and activities. The theatrical masterpiece of the beach aims to blend Bangladesh's artistic legacy with the vibrancy of contemporary storytelling.
