Former Director General of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Lieutenant General (Retd) Mainul Islam and his wife were not allowed to travel abroad.
They went to Shahjalal International Airport on Tuesday to travel to Canada. An immigration police officer informed journalists that Mainul Islam had arrived at the airport with his wife to fly to Canada but was barred from boarding their flight.
After a while Golam Rasul, a senior officer belonging to the Special Branch (SB) of Police Force, told media outlets that Mainul Islam was scheduled to travel to Toronto, a major city in Canada.
Lt. General Mainul Islam (Retd) was told by the airport immigration cops that he must cooperate with the commission formed to investigate the Pilkhana massacre, providing them with necessary facts and figures before traveling abroad.
However, Lt. General (Retd) Mainul Islam was not detained by the law and order forces.
Mainul Islam took over the Director General post of former Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) after the Pilkhana massacre which took place on February 25, 2009, within a couple of months after Awami League led by ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ascended power.
Later on the name of the BDR was changed to BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) and the uniform of the force was also changed. Lt. General (Retd) Mainul
