Information and Broadcasting adviser Nahid Islam stated that journalists will get new passes for Secretariat entry from Monday. He made these remarks at the Secretariat gate yesterday. Nahid Islam said, "Over 3,000 accreditation cards had been issued in the past, as most of them are fake documents. There is a need for verification of these cards. New passes will be issued after verification. The application process will begin tomorrow or the day after. If necessary, we will discuss the matter with journalist organizations or editors."
Regarding recent developments, he said that the deadline for submitting the preliminary report of the investigation committee for the recent fire incident. So no one is allowed entry into the Secretariat until today. All passes will be canceled. A limited temporary pass will be issued. You will be allowed to enter the Secretariat from tomorrow.
A fire broke out in a nine-story building at the Secretariat around 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday night. Following the incident, strict measures were implemented at the Secretariat, and a committee was formed to investigate. Accreditation cards issued to journalists were also canceled as part of these measures which has meanwhile triggered widespread criticism.
