There was no evidence of sabotage in the recent fire outbreak at the Secretariat. The fire was caused by a "loose electrical connection".
The above information has emerged in the initial report of the high-level investigation committee formed into the fire incident at the Secretariat.
This was informed by BUET Professor Dr Maksud Helali, one of the members of the investigation committee, at a press briefing held in front of the State Guest House Jamuna on Tuesday (December 31) evening. He said that the initial investigation report has been submitted to the Chief Adviser. The preliminary investigation committee report was discussed with him for about an hour. The Chief Adviser gave necessary directives to the specialist team about the future course of action after knowing the details.
The members on the inquiry committee spoke to journalists at a press conference in the capital yesterday evening. The inquiry committee head and Senior Secretary Dr. Nasimul Goni, retired teacher of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Professor Dr. Maksud Helali, explosive expert Brigadier General Mahbubur Russell, Fire Service and Civil Defence Director General Brigadier General Jahed Kamal and the Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam addressed the press conference.
