The capacity of a computer system to carry out operations that normally call for human intelligence is known as artificial intelligence (AI). John McCarthy is called the father of AI. He was an American computer and cognitive scientist. He made significant contributions to AI in 1956, John McCarthy used the term "artificial intelligence" for the first time when he organized the Dartmouth Conference, which is known as the starting point of the study of AI.
Recently, AI has started to become a part of our daily lives. It has the ability to complete thousands of tasks simultaneously in a short time and quickly. The demand for artificial intelligence technology is increasing day by day due to its human-like intelligence along with accurate information. It has gradually improved over time. AI can quickly make decisions on its own, just like the human brain, and easily solve any complex problem. This term AI is becoming more and more involved in people's lives.
AI is playing a special role as a helper in personal work or any profession; almost in every field of our daily life. The contribution of AI in the field of medicine is remarkable. From disease diagnosis to treatment planning and drug discovery, AI has an unparalleled role to play. As a result, patients receive accurate treatment. Between 2020 and 2023, the market size of AI in healthcare grew by 233%, from $6.7 billion to $22.4 billion.
There is a huge demand for AI in the banking sector. We can easily transfer money from one place to another within seconds with just an SMS. As a result, our labor and time are saved from being wasted. The percentage of banks using AI increases from 14% in 2017 to 43% in 2019.
AI is most commonly used in security-related work. CCTV cameras are a widely used device for security or criminal detection. Drones are now used on the battlefield, so soldiers do not have to be physically present. Moreover, by installing radars in important places, we can be aware of the enemy's position in advance. All of this is the contribution of AI.
In addition, AI has an unparalleled role in almost all fields, including online shopping, education, customer service, marketing and sales, and writing. It is not possible for a human to work 24 hours a day, 24 hours a day, but AI has the ability to work 24 hours a day without any breaks. AI systems analyze a lot of data and make decisions based on rules, so it always gives accurate and logical results. With this tool, impending dangers can be easily identified. It can identify risks by understanding human behavior and the normal functioning of machines. As a result, impending dangers can be avoided.
AI is emotionless, so it never gets excited about the customer, but rather answers any question easily. Moreover, unbiased decisions can be made using AI. AI not only increases the speed of work but also increases productivity and efficiency by many folds. The number of AI users is increasing day by day. It is estimated that by 2030, the number of AI users will reach 729.11 million.
A recent statistic shows that 8 out of every 10 people in the United States are AI users. 77% of devices today use AI technology in one form or another. AI is a new light of hope for people all over the world today. As the number of AI users increases, so do the thousands of questions, excitement, and fears surrounding AI.
Many believe that AI is enough to destroy humanity. Others believe that AI is the biggest threat to the existence of humanity. But how true is this? There is still a lot of debate about whether AI will be a threat to human existence. Experts have varying opinions on this. A survey of AI researchers conducted last year found that 48% of researchers believed that AI had a negative impact, while only 10% believed that it had a negative impact. However, 25% of researchers believe that the risk of AI to humanity is only 0%.
Other researchers believe that the risk of AI is 5%. It is very important for us to understand the risks of AI in order to take advantage of it. AI does not have the ability to think creatively like humans. It only knows what it is taught. But AI does not have the ability to create anything new. People are gradually leaning towards AI in a way that may cause people to lose their skills and creative thinking in the future. As a result, if AI does not work, people will not be able to do that work themselves.
Moreover, AI will continue to reduce job opportunities. According to the 2024 report (Leading through the great disruption), 40% of CEOs of (Adecco Group) said that they will hire fewer workers within five years due to AI. As a result, the unemployment rate will become more pronounced in the future.AI is putting the confidential information of billions of people at risk. The use of AI is raising ethical and privacy concerns. According to many experts, when using AI data, confidential information can be exposed, which can go against the law and consumer expectations.
According to many experts, AI is just a statistical machine that works only on probabilities. While it provides accurate information most of the time, that information may not always be accurate. AI can work 24/7 and be run on a massive scale, so a mistake can cause huge losses. At the same time, cybercrime is increasing with time. Recently, it has been seen that cybercriminals are using AI to create frauds such as phishing emails or deep fake videos. Which look completely real but are fake.
In this way, criminals are constantly deceiving people. As a result, various kinds of difficulties have come down to public life. Experts fear that with the growth of AI, the problems may become more pronounced day by day. Despite all this, the future of AI is infinitely possible. The spread of AI will increase further in the future. The AI market size is expected to exceed $1,398 billion in 2022, from $387 billion.AI is a great gift to mankind. Everyone expects AI to play an important role in the development of the country and nation.
Another point needs to be noted in this context. Artificial intelligence is being misused on a broad scale, particularly in academia, like in universities by some unscrupulous teachers who are generating research papers or articles swiftly by means of AI tools, instead of doing any sort of hard work. Even there are allegations that certain PhD dissertations are being conjured up by applying AI devices.
These things are highly detrimental for the growth of academic standard in a country like Bangladesh. Everything in this world has both bright and dusky chromaticities. AI and robotics have not been invented by scientists to facilitate theft and plagiarism. So, universities should carry out sharp surveillance to examine the originality of papers and articles so that counterfeit texts or translations do not get entertained undermining the headland of human beings’ unique intellectual capability.
