Chief Prosecutor of International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Tajul Islam has said that a bomb was planted to kill the officials who are investigating enforced disappearances that took place during the immediate past regime.
Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam conveyed the above information while addressing a press conference on Sunday noon (6 April 2025) after the hearing of four cases in the International Crimes Tribunal.
Tajul Islam said "A bomb was planted to kill me and the investigators who are working on enforced disappearances. However, no conspiracy can hold us back from doing our job. The tribunal is working in a very transparent way. No valid corruption complaint about the prosecution under this tribunal can be shown."
Tajul Islam also said "I am not the right individual to comment on launching International Crimes Tribunal at divisional towns which is being demanded by political parties. Political parties' work is to think about their country. So, they can think on whether ICT courts can be set up in divisional towns. The number of tribunals can be extended considering the magnitude of crimes against humanity which were committed by the overthrown ruling party. I hope the government will evaluate the feasibility of augmenting ICT courts in some other parts of Bangladesh besides capital Dhaka city".
According to Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam "Only one tribunal is not sufficient. More tribunals need to be established. The government is also keeping this point under positive consideration. I hope the second tribunal will be launched soon."
