The National Citizens' Party (NCP) has called for forming an 'Anti-Fascist Moncha' in every locality with a view to ensuring the trial of the fascist Awami League (AL). While addressing a rally in South gate of the Baitul Mokarram National Mosque in Dhaka on Friday afternoon, NCP's convener Nahid Islam said, "Awami League is no longer a political party-it has become a party of fascists, and fascists have no right to engage in politics. To ensure AL's trial, we are calling to form 'Anti-Fascist Monch' across the country."
"We want to make it clear from today's demonstration rally - Awami League's registration must be cancelled immediately, and the 'boat' symbol must be erased from Bangladesh. Until the trial proceedings are completed, all political and organisational activities of the Awami League must be banned by law," he said.
Nahid Islam said: "Even nine months after the July mass uprising, we are still forced to take to the streets demanding the ban of the Awami League and the cancellation of its registration. We consider this a collective failure."
NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain said: "The Election Commission must revoke the Awami League's registration and classify it as a terrorist organization. It is a genocidal party and should no longer be allowed to engage in politics.
"On August 5, the people of Bangladesh made it clear that politics can no longer be carried out in the name of the Awami League or the Mujib ideology. From now on, the people will determine their own destiny."
NCP's key organizer (Southern Region) Hasnat Abdullah said, "The interim government stands on the blood of martyrs and the wounded, who sacrificed their lives to eliminate fascism. Today, we are not here with any request, but to declare our decision to ban the AL."
Calling for the enforcement of a ban on the Awami League, NCP's key organizer (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam said that those people who have committed atrocities and killed innocent people have no right to participate in politics.
NCP joint member secretary Akram Hossen, spokesman Samantha Sharmin, key organizer Dr. Mahmuda Mitu, joint convener Dr. Tajnuva jabin, Dr. Tasnim Jara, joint member secretary Mahin Sarkar, joint member secretary Dr. Joyenul Islam Abdul Hannan Masud, joint member secretary advocate Nur, joint convener Advocate Torikul Islam, joint convener Mawlana Ashraf Uddin, joint key organizer Ali Naser Khan, central organizer Mostaq Ahmed spoke, among other, on the occasion.
