IGP orders SPs in bordering districts to stay on alert

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Islam has asked superintendents of police (SP) in border districts to remain on alert and ensure that no criminals or militants are able to cross into Bangladesh amid the ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan.

"A warning has been given to the police superintendents of the bordering districts so that the security of Bangladesh is not disrupted due to the India-Pakistan conflict," a police headquarter statement quoted him as saying.

The instruction was revealed by Assistant Inspector General (Public Relations) Enamul Haque Sagar in response to a question from the media at an event on Wednesday.

The IGP was the chief guest at the "Bangladesh Police Annual Shooting Competition and IGP Cup-2024" at the Bangladesh Sports Federation in Dhaka's Gulshan.

"We will make every effort so that our security is not disrupted in this context," Baharul Islam said.

All necessary steps will be taken to prevent any security disruption stemming from regional tensions, he added.

Thirty Bangladesh districts have borders with India and three districts have borders with Myanmar.

The police statement said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and Special Branch (SB) became champion and runner-up respectively in the competition, contested by different police units from May 5-7.

The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Additional IGP and President of Bangladesh Police Shooting Club M. Mustafa Kamal presided over the function.

In the competition, Nayek Tanjib Hossain Khandaker attached to SB won first place in .177 Air Rifle Open Sight 10 Meter (men) event, SB ASI (unarmed) M. Monirul Islam won second place and Feni district ASI (unarmed) ABSM Hasan secured the third place.
