Bangladesh interim government's National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman has said that the government has not received proposals from any foreign country or organization to talk about humanitarian corridors. Khalilur Rahman stated this point on Wednesday (21 May 2025) while addressing a press conference in Dhaka city. Khalilur Rahman also declined propagations on social media about him holding dual passports. In his words "I am a Bangladeshi citizen. I have only a Bangladeshi passport. I don't have passports of any other country. I was in the United States before coming back to Bangladesh but I don't have US citizenship. Please stop propagating false things."
Netizens on social media have been writing for last few days that Khalilur Rahman holds an American passport. Questions were raised on Facebook about the eligibility of Khalilur Rahman as Bangladesh's National Security Adviser if he holds another country's citizenship. However, Khalilur Rahman declined these allegations during yesterday's press conference.
Khalilur Rahman said, "We have told Arakan Army in categorical terms that we won't tolerate any ethnic cleansing. We have also urged Arakan Army not to make a racist province only with Rakhine people." Khalilur Rahman told journalists that all options and diplomatic tools need to be placed on the table to expedite Rohingya repatriation. Bangladesh seeks a rapid, sustainable and peaceful solution for the Rohingya crisis, Khalilur Rahman commented.
Khalilur Rahman stated that the rumour about providing a corridor to Myanmar is totally fictitious. No such negotiation was held with the United Nations or anyone else, Khalilur Rahman affirmed. "We are not extending corridors to anyone" the National Security Adviser asserted during Wednesday's press conference.
According to Khalilur Rahman, all relevant issues have been broadly discussed with Bangladesh Army and there is no disagreement between the interim government and the Army Chief. Khalilur Rahman informed that the interim government is under no pressure from the United States or China or any other foreign countries over any issues.
It may be added that confabulations about providing a corridor to Myanmar's Rakhine province were triggered when Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain talked about it on 27 April 2025. Khalilur Rahman told reporters yesterday that it was the Foreign Adviser's "slip of tongue".
