G-7 Summit for the year 2025 was held recently in Kananaskis, a place in Alberta province, Canada. The Summit was held in the above venue from June 15 to June 17, 2025. The dignitary who chaired this year’s session was Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. The subsequent session of the next year 2026 will be chaired by the President of France.
The session was held in such a moment of time when the entire globe was in the midst of severe social and political embroilment. Now the goal of global citizens is to ensure peace, calmness along with economic and political development. Now let me touch upon the key issues taken up during the three days of the Summit 2025. Thus, in the below, I state in broad outlines the key features of the Summit,
Settling of global tensions.
Easing of strained ties between Iran and Israel.
Welcoming the right of Israel to ensure self-defense.
Ensuring cease fire in Gaza.
Middle East geopolitics and energy security along balancing act by India in her foreign policy.
Among the participation by the member nations, the role by India sounds significant as per ushering peaceful coexistence in ensuring geopolitical stability along with economic ones. Though India was invited for a special purpose by the host Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. The reason behind the invitation to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was well known to the key participants. As already highlighted, India’s participation has been quite significant. India emphasized on the following issues which are stated as follow:
Emphasize upon inclusive technology and fair AI norms. All global leaders were emphasized to take initiative to combat terrorism around South Asian Sub-Continent with a deft hand.
Propagated Global South Initiatives like development financing and debt relief.
Emphasizing India’s model of promotion of energy equity and digital governance.
The key member nations have wholeheartedly shared India’s advancement in digitization aspect.
The usage of Aadhar in domestic issues as well as in international matters.
Stressing of importance of democratic values, peace-building and multilateralism so that peace should be the key forte around South Asian nations.
The roles played by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in ensuring peace and calmness across the Sub-Continent has earned wide ranging plaudits and applause. The way he nabbed the terrorist in Pakistan from across the border has already bestowed upon him wide-ranging accolades. The operation Sindoor has earned good results. The strike was performed from across the border in Pakistan. Same way India is badly disturbed with Bangladesh too. If Bangladesh stalemate is not resolved, then the entire India plus neighboring West Bengal will land up into deep trouble. That is why Modi has been very much tacit in not adopting drastic steps to counteract the onslaught of Bangladesh into Indian soil.
Now coming to the G-7 Summit part, we have trace out that the entire globe plus the member nations of the group have expressed about the state of affairs of macro issues in both Bangladesh and Pakistan. Though among other South Asian nations like Stlisri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal and Bhutan might be stable at present. But all of them have to pull up their socks badly. Coming to the issue of Afghanistan, they are disturbed due to Baluchistan issue.
Now let me come back to my key areas of my analysis. The just concluded G-7 Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada definitely perceives some key objectives. All around the globe there are some political and economic strain and stress going in respective domestic segments. Among them, the key issues are law and order situation, political along with economic instability. But the most worrisome issue pertains to South Asian Sub-Continent like Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Now again let me retrace back to G-7 issues, I find that all member nations have agreed upon a common consensus like enter into bilateral economic and trade cooperation among all member nations. Among other pertinent issues like tackling climate change and proper utilization of changing technologies which might impart the economic and technological advancement of the globe. Though India is not a full-fledged member nation of G-7 group of nations, but her is at present important as per prevailing situations goes by. India is now in her fifth position as per global positioning is concerned. But other powerful global players are keeping close watch upon India. Hope under the stewardship of Narendra Modi as Prime Minister things will improve further. G-7 Summit for the year 2026 will be held at Evian- Les-Bains, Haute-Savoie hub in France.
Summing up the above hypothesis one point becomes crystal clear in our mind that G-7 Summit 2025 at Kananaskis will no doubt provide some options for global peace and stability along with economic cum technological development. Though it is a tough task for the member nations, but solutions will no doubt surface among us in due course. However, role played by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is attached due importance. If Modi is not taken into confidence, then things will turn out grimmer in the coming days of life.
