BRICS Summit 2025 and Aftermath

 

BRICS Summit 2025 was held recently in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. The Summit for this year was held between July 6 and July 7, 2025. The group is a conglomeration of the following nations, such as Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. The summit was held in the Brazilian capital city, in such a moment of time when the global situation is sinking under doldrums. Iran Israeli war, Indian attach upon Pakistan etc various wars and conflicts which no doubt destabilizes the globe from both political and economic aspects.

BRICS Summit of the year 2025 was held in such a period in global political, social and economic history. That gives us an indication where we are residing around the globe and what are the probable outcomes from this dreary catastrophe in our lifetime. Though ‘BRICS’ is a conglomeration of some nations which are deeply linked with the acronym given. All around the globe, we find that there are deep-rooted strain and stress which have badly eaten up the vitals of our societies. The objective of each governance of the globe is to ensure political and economic stability. Hence lies the need for a seminar of the pattern of ‘BRICS’ which stands of as supreme importance.

Now arriving at then crux of the summit let me examine in the need for a global seminar like ‘BRICS’ seminar. BRICS as stated in the beginning is the conglomerate of four major nations of the globe like Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Later on, other nations which have included in the fray of BRICS are Indonesia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates. Basic objectives of BRICS are multifarious. Among all the objectives of the summit, let me state some of the common one which are stated as follow:

Law and order should be made more stable and sounder.

Economic development along with political stability.

Total commitment to greeneries around us so as to save the environment.

The 17th BRICS Summit being held in Brazilian capital Rio De Janeiro with the key motto, ‘Strengthening Global South Cooperation with promotion of more inclusive and sustainable global governance’. There are six key features of the motto such as global health, trade, investment and development financing, responsive towards climate change, sound governance of artificial intelligence, reformation of the global security order and finally the most important of all is the institutional development of BRICS mechanism.

Now arriving at the outcome of 17th BRICS Summit, we find that some outcome has been enacted through a proper and intricate consensus. Among all some of the common ones are stated as follow:

Sustainable development-It is through this process; the leadership framework declaration was framed on climate finance. It will help the member nations to mobilize resources for developing nations, thereby endorsing a MOU on BRICS Carbon Market Partnership to enhance cooperation in pricing of carbon and emissions trading.

Peace and security-BRICS Summit 2025 emphasized upon peace and security on Gaza Strip and also put an end to Russian squabble. Financial Cooperation-There was wide ranging deliberations on cross border payments. The aim is to reduce too much dependency upon US Dollars. Contrarily the member nations supported New Development Bank’s expansion. Along with it the development of BRICS Multilateral Guarantees Scheme which will lower the risks of investments of underdeveloped economies.

Health and Social Development- BRICS member nations agree to launch the formation of Partnership for the Elimination of Socially Determined Diseases (Tuberculosis) in order to tackle any form of health disparities.

Condemnation of Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism- BRICS member nations have severely condemned CBAM as enacted by the European Union stating that they demean their transition to a cleaner economy.

Writing about BRICS is not at all an easy task for me. But still let me interpret the group’s dynamics in a broader perspective and the probable challenges which we witness around the globe. As per the dynamism of BRICS is concerned, we have to pay attention towards key features, which are stated as follow:

There are lot to write about BRICS Summit as a whole apart from this year’s summit. India’s role is deeply important, along with the role of this nation, special privileges should be accorded to Bangladesh. As Bangladesh is on the verge of rejuvenation, hence the nation should be accorded relevant cooperation so as to stem out from the current crisis. I have plans to write separately about India along with special focus about Bangladesh which also inclusive of challenges which the BRICS member nations have to face shortly.
