A Dhaka court has imposed travel bans on 286 people including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on charges of conspiring to overthrow the interim government through zoom meetings.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam handed down this order on Thursday following a petition from Assistant Police Super Md. Enamul Haque (CID). A hearing was held on the petition and the above court issued orders to the authorities concerned to enforce travel bans on Sheikh Hasina and another 285 individuals over treasons like plotting against the current government.
The court has ticked off 9 October 2025 for Police Department to submit reports associated with a plea to the court for issuing arrest orders against 286 people including Sheikh Hasina.
Apart from Sheikh Hasina, some other noteworthy people charged with this case are USA Awami League Vice President Dr. Rabbi Alam, Joy Bangla Brigade Member Kabirul Islam, advocate Quamrul Islam, Elahi Newaz Masum, Zakir Hossain Zico, Professor Taheruzzaman, AKM Akteruzzaman, Awami League leaders Sabina Yeasmin, Azida Parveen Pakhi, Advocate AFM Didarul Islam, Maqsudur Rahman, former MP Syeda Rubina Akter, former MP Pankaj Nath, Laila Banu, banned outfit Chhatra League central president Saddam Hossain, Ritu Akter, Nurunnabi Nibir, Sabina Begum and Shariful Islam Ramzan. Charges pressed against the above politicians show that Joy Bangla Brigade exchanged views on 19 December 2024 through a virtual meeting about igniting a civil war in Bangladesh and thus to reinstate Sheikh Hasina in power. Assistant Superintendent of Police, Crime Investigation Department (CID) is scrutinizing these charges.
It may be recalled that a countrywide Anti-Discriminatory Students' Movement and a severe mass uprising unseated former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from power on 5 August 2024. Sheikh Hasina and her party outlawed Awami League ruled Bangladesh from 2009 to 2024. After the devastation of Awami League on 05 August 2024, Sheikh Hasina flew to India on the same date.
