China consolidates alliance with Singapore to bolster regional supremacy

 
Chinese Premier Li Qiang arrived in Singapore on Saturday for an official visit at the invitation of Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

Over the 35 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the relations between the two countries have maintained a good momentum for development, with deepened political mutual trust, fruitful practical cooperation and closer people-to-people exchanges, setting a model for mutual learning and win-win cooperation between countries, Li said.

Noting that under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and Singaporean leaders, China-Singapore relations have advanced further in recent years, he said with the establishment of the all-round high-quality future-oriented partnership, both sides have deepened cooperation in various fields, brought greater benefits to the peoples of both countries and made positive contributions to regional peace and development.

China is willing to work together with Singapore to strengthen the alignment of development strategies, comprehensively expand mutually beneficial cooperation, continue to work together in the modernization drive, and contribute more to upholding true multilateralism and promoting common development in the region, he added. Josephine Teo, Singaporean Minister for Digital Development and Information, and Cao Zhongming, Chinese Ambassador to Singapore, greeted Li at the airport.

Singapore’s Ministry of Home Affairs and China’s Ministry of Emergency Management signed an MOU to promote cooperation in emergency management.

Under the MOU, both parties will explore cooperation and mutual exchange of knowledge and expertise in firefighting, rescue and disaster management.

MTI’s Software Project Office and China’s Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) Administrative Committee signed an MOU to further explore collaboration in third-party markets in developing the industrial park.

Both sides agreed to jointly develop a Third Country Training Program for government officials from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Timor-Leste, which is set to become the bloc’s 11th member. The program focuses on key areas such as the clean energy transition, sustainable urban development, climate resilience and the ASEAN Power Grid.

According to Li, the world is entering a new and turbulent period marked by profound transformations and intertwined global challenges.
Li also reaffirmed that China is ready to work with Singapore and ASEAN countries to build a successful China–ASEAN Free Trade Area (FTA 3.0), paving the way for even stronger growth in the years to come.

Acting President Teo Chee Hean said Singapore is committed to aligning its development strategies with China’s and promoting multifaceted cooperation in economy, trade, and people-to-people exchanges. He also stressed that Singapore will help deepen the ASEAN–China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and advance efforts to build an open global economy.

Premier Li’s visit to Singapore took place as the two countries celebrated the 35th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
