Prepare for the worst in polls:  Dr Yunus

Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus, has directed officials to ensure maximum preparedness to face the "worst possible situation" surrounding the next parliamentary polls.

His Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said Yunus issued the directive during a high-level government meeting on election preparations held on Wednesday.

The meeting, lasting over two hours at the State Guest House Jamuna, discussed election readiness in detail. Later, the press secretary briefed reporters at the Foreign Service Academy, bdnews24 reports.

He said discussions covered several issues:
Countering misinformation on social media
Key pre-election appointments
Training of election officials
Maintaining law and order

During the meeting, Yunus said: "Many forces, both from inside and outside, will try to derail the election. 

Not minor ones -- attacks could come from powerful forces. This election will be challenging. Whatever storms come, we must overcome them."
The government is preparing to hold the general election before Ramadan in February, with all preparations to be completed by Nov 15.

Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman, Chief Adviser's Special Assistants Lieutenant General (retd) Abdul Hafiz (Defence and National Solidarity Development) and Faiz Ahmed Taiyeb (ICT Affairs), Cabinet Secretary Dr Sheikh Abdur Rashid, CA's Principal Secretary M Siraz Uddin Miah, Election Commission Secretary Akhter Ahmed, Home Secretary Nasimul Gani, Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Force Division Lieutenant General SM Kamrul Hassan, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam, RAB Director General AKM Shahidur Rahman, Director General of Bangladesh Coast Guard Rear Admiral Mohammad Ziaul Haque, representatives from NSI and DGFI, among others, attended the meeting the two-hour meeting.

CA's Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahammad and Assistant Press Secretary Shuchismita Tithi were present at the briefing.
