Nazrul Islam Mazumder will be interrogated at jail gate
 
A Dhaka court has issued orders to law and order forces to interrogate Nassa Group owner and former Exim Bank Chairman Nazrul Islam Mazumder at the jail gate for two days to attain information about the range of damages and rampage he did to Bangladesh's banking sector during the ousted government's ruling period. This order was handed down in the wake of two different financial racket cases lodged by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) against Nazrul Islam Mazumder.

Senior Special Judge Sabbir Foyez, Dhaka Metropolitan Court gave this instruction on Thursday (30 October 2025) following petitions from ACC.

A court told authorities concerned on 6 March 2025 to seize six houses and eight plots illegally usurped by Nazrul Islam Mazumder. The court also gave directives to regulators to freeze Nazrul Islam Mazumder's shares in 55 companies equivalent to BDT 56 crore 6 lakh 58 thousand.  

Nazrul Islam Mazumder held the President post in Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB) for many years while overthrown Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was in power from 2009 to 2024. ACC filed cases against Nazrul Islam Mazumder on 16 February 2025 over unlawfully obtained assets.  

Nazrul Islam Mazumder was infamous as a close ally to the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from 2009 to 2024. He exercised immense influence on banks, news agencies and intelligence divisions during those years. Nazrul Islam Mazumder's wife Nasreen Islam and his children's bank accounts have been seized too.

Sheikh Hasina was terminated from power on 5 August 2024 and she instantly flew to India. On the other hand, police force arrested Nazrul Islam Mazumder on 1 October 2024 from the capital's Gulshan area.
