Judicial proceedings should be placed beyond questions: Leftist leaders

Leftist Democratic Alliance (LDA) has expressed their reactions over the verdict on former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who has been sentenced to death for crimes against humanity and human rights violations during the July Uprising in 2024. LDA has informed their feedback on this verdict. LDA leaders had an executive council meeting on Tuesday. LDA dignitaries talked to journalists about their thoughts and views on the verdict at the end of the meeting. According to LDA leaders, judicial proceedings at the International Crimes Tribunal as well as in all courts across Bangladesh should never be allowed to get subjected to questions inside the country or in the international arena. The LDA meeting was held yesterday in the capital's Topkhana Road at Bangladesh Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) party office at 5 pm.

LDA leaders remarked that this verdict shows that nobody is above the law. They said that people from all walks of life in Bangladesh want precise and unbiased trials of all the individuals who were responsible for genocide and flouting human rights during the July Mass Upheaval in 2024 which led to the immediate past government's downfall. There must be smooth and impartial prosecution for each and every murder case, LDA leaders asserted.

The above verdict has more or less pacified the woes of the families of the martyrs and the wounded demonstrators who participated in the July Revolution, LDA leaders stated. LDA leaders called upon the apex court to conduct the judicial process transparently in case of reviews and appeals too. However, the leftist leaders said that they cannot appreciate sentencing former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun to only five years in prison making him a state witness.

The meeting was presided over by LDA Coordinator and BSD Central Committee General Secretary Comrade Bazlur Rashid Firoz. Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) President Sazzad Zahir Chandan, Biplobi Communist League presidium member Professor Abdus Sattar, Gonotantrik Biplobi Party General Secretary Moshrefa Mishu and some other socialist ideologues were present on the occasion.
