National Security Adviser goes to Delhi one day earlier

Bangladesh interim government's National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman was supposed to leave for Delhi on Wednesday to attend the Colombo Security Conclave (CSC) but Khalilur Rahman left for the Indian capital one day earlier on Tuesday (18 November 2025).

Diplomatic sources have informed that Khalilur Rahman reached Delhi yesterday evening at around 6:30 pm. A senior official from Indian National Security Council received Khalilur Rahman at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The Colombo Security Conclave is scheduled to kick off on Thursday (20 November 2025) at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. Khalilur Rahman is expected to return to Dhaka on the same day, foreign ministry officials have stated.

Khalilur Rahman went to New Delhi at such a time while heated political circumstances are going on all over Bangladesh following the issuance of death penalty on former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by the International Crimes Tribunal, Dhaka a couple of days ago. Dhaka has meanwhile requested New Delhi to send back Sheikh Hasina to Bangladesh who has been residing in India since being ousted on 5 August 2024.

Bangladesh interim government's Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain has told journalists that Bangladesh has requested the Indian government to hand over Sheikh Hasina to Dhaka in light of the extradition treaty between Bangladesh and India.

People in both countries are very much curious to know whether any meetings between Khalilur Rahman and Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval will be held or not this time.

Ajit Doval invited Khalilur Rahman to join the Colombo Security Conclave in New Delhi in October 2025.
