Bangladesh interim government has issued a letter to the Election Commission (EC) to organize everything and to ensure full preparation to hold referendum and general elections on the same day. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin conveyed this information on Saturday (22 November 2025) while addressing an electoral workshop in the capital's Gulshan.
CEC AMM Nasir Uddin said "Bangladesh's people have very high hopes about the upcoming elections. We have figured this out during last few days. We find it very much challenging. Whatever happens, our goal is to present a transparent and smooth election to the country's masses. We have made the same promise to the political parties too."
About the country's political situation, the CEC said "Our political reality is not so smooth. However, I believe the forthcoming elections will be held freely and fairly which will restore people's confidence on the electoral system. I hope our political leaders are wise and responsible and they will cooperate with the Election Commission in all valid ways."
The CEC stated that the law for the referendum will be enacted next week. The Election Commission will start working for the referendum when the law is made. AMM Nasir Uddin commented that holding referendum and national elections on the same day is going to be a mammoth job but the Election Commission will be making the best of its efforts. AMM concluded his remarks saying "We are highly confident and optimistic."
