German Ambassador in Dhaka Dr. Rudiger Lotz has laid emphasis on a broader compromise among all political parties for free and fair elections and for firmly establishing democracy too in Bangladesh. Dr. Rudiger Lotz expressed hope that the upcoming elections are going to be all-inclusive and participatory.
Dr. Rudiger Lotz made the above comments on Wednesday (26 November 2025) while exchanging views with journalists at the VIP lounge in the capital's National Press Club. Diplomatic Correspondents Association Bangladesh (DCAB) organized the program.
The German Ambassador informed during the program that a lot of fake documents have been submitted by Bangladeshi students who have applied for visa to study in Germany. For this reason authentic students are also facing visa complications, Dr. Rudiger Lotz said. He added that the German Embassy is trying to address visa applications quickly.
Dr. Rudiger Lotz said that Bangladesh has signed agreements with France to buy Airbus. If Airbus from France is not purchased, it may cause harm to Bangladesh's relations with the European Union (EU), the German Ambassador voiced concern.
DCAB President AKM Main Uddin and General Secretary Arifuzzaman spoke on the occasion among other dignitaries.
Airbus, a France-based aircraft manufacturer, has been trying to sell jets to the state-owned Bangladesh Biman Airlines since the erstwhile Awami League government's rule, which ended in the face of a mass uprising last year.
During a joint press conference with then prime minister Sheikh Hasina during his visit to Dhaka in September 2023, French President Emmanuel Macron said that Bangladesh had "committed to buying" 10 large aircraft from the French company Airbus.
