Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed has said the number of bank accounts having at least Taka one crore is increasing as the undisclosed money stored inside houses for a long time, now being deposited in banks. He said this in response to a query on the number of bank accounts with crore taka increased by 734 in three months between July and September in 2025.
The Adviser was speaking to journalists after an Advisory Council Committee meeting on government purchase at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
According to the central bank, the number of bank accounts having more than Taka one crore was 1,27,336 at the end of June in 2025 while at the end of September it increased to 1,28,070.
According to Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics, the number of bank accounts with at least Tk one crore in 1972 was only five, while it was 47 in 1975 followed by 98 in 1980.
