Sharif Osman Hadi, the convener of the Inqilab Mancha and a likely Dhaka-8 independent candidate shot in the head a couple of days ago, was taken to Singapore yesterday for advanced treatment.
The air ambulance carrying him departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 1:55pm and reached Changi Airport around 6:30pm (Bangladesh time).
Dr Md Abdul Ahad, a resident physician of the neurosurgery department at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and member secretary of the National Health Alliance (NHA), confirmed the matter.
Hadi's two brothers are accompanying him to Singapore, the doctor said.
The air ambulance of Osprey Aviation landed at Dhaka airport at 11:22am.
Meanwhile, Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed said the government had no hesitation in allocating necessary funds for the treatment of critically injured Sharif Osman Hadi.
A case has been filed in the attack on Hadi that took place on Friday (12 December), naming Faisal Karim Masud, also known as Daud Khan, as the main accused and several unidentified individuals as accused.
Till now, eight people have been arrested in the incident, including Mohammad Abdul Hannan, owner of the motorcycle that was used to shoot Hadi.
Osman Hadi was shot around 2:24pm on 12 December in the Purana Paltan area of the capital. An assailant fired at him from a motorcycle that had been following him from behind while he was travelling in a battery-powered rickshaw.
He was rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) emergency department following the attack and taken to the operating theatre at around 3:50pm.
Later, around 7:30pm, after surgery, he was transferred to Evercare Hospital for advanced treatment.
