Bangladesh interim government's Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has said that government employees should not be in service for longer than 5 years. The whole world is being reshaped faster in accordance with latest transformations while in Bangladesh people don't want to resign once they find government jobs. Prolonged service tenure in government jobs derails a lot of officials, Dr. Muhammad Yunus further said.
Dr. Muhammad Yunus made the above comments on Wednesday (28 January 2026) while addressing the inaugural ceremony of Digital Device and Innovation Expo in the capital's Bangladesh-China Friendship Convention Center at Sher-E-Bangla Nagar. The website and logo of Bangladesh Innovation Challenge were also launched at the same event.
Dr. Muhammad Yunus said "Technological innovations are moving forward so fast that policies and institutions are becoming irrelevant in no time. It's important for us to adapt to this rapid technological changes in an all-inclusive way".
The Chief Adviser commented that government employees in Bangladesh get stuck in a fixed structure and thus they cannot keep pace with the fast proceeding world. He called upon the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) authorities to take a serious look into these circumstances.
Dr. Muhammad Yunus laid emphasis on engaging the new generation with the ICT programs and portfolios. He further said that people who studied computer science and technology 30 years back are not familiar with the latest upgrades in the field of information technology and computing. So, people who are experiencing the latest world order should be included in ICT projects and IT enabled services. Acquiring precise knowledge on latest technological updates and sophistications is indispensable, Dr. Muhammad Yunus stated. The Chief Adviser added that changes and alignments in the ICT sector in Bangladesh are being done in light of the establishments left behind by the British colonial regime but this approach is in no way effective, he mentioned in his speech. Dr. Muhammad Yunus appealed to people associated with ICT avocations to pick up leadership roles instead of being mere followers.
