Newly appointed Information and Broadcasting Minister Jahir Uddin Shwapan has said that from now on there will be no regimentation on media outlets and journalists will be allowed to work without fears across Bangladesh.
Jahir Uddin Shwapan gave these assurances while exchanging views with journalists at his Secretariat office on Wednesday which was his first working day at the ministry.
Jahir Uddin Shwapan stated that the newly elected government firmly believes in freedom of press and media professionals will face no impediments in carrying out their jobs smoothly.
Jahir Uddin Shwapan commented that people in Bangladesh are upset with the political biases of newspapers and television channels which was rampant during last 17 years. He told reporters yesterday that this degenerated culture will be very soon eradicated.
Jahir Uddin Shwapan affirmed that the BNP government will be taking lessons from past errors and the new Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is determined to drive Bangladesh forward by establishing liberty for media workers irrespectively. Jahir Uddin Shwapan blamed the ousted Awami League government for keeping journalists under pressure and for compelling media professionals to work in a politicized way for years after years.
