US ambassador presents historic photographs  to PM Tarique Rahman

US Ambassador Brent T Christensen has presented a replica of the White House and two historic photographs to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman during their meeting.

The meeting took place at the Prime Minister's Office at the Secretariat on Sunday afternoon, said Atiqur Rahman Rumon, additional press secretary to the prime minister, bdnews24 reports.

He said that of the two photographs gifted by the ambassador, one shows a meeting between Tarique's father, former Bangladesh president Ziaur Rahman, and former US president Jimmy Carter, while the other shows one between Tarique's mother, former prime minister Khaleda Zia, and former US president George HW Bush.

Ziaur Rahman met Jimmy Carter at the White House when he visited the US in August, 1980.

Zia's wife Khaleda Zia visited the US the year after she became Prime Minister in 1991. On Mar 19, 1992, she met with Bush Sr in the Oval Office of the White House for about an hour.

Tarique the couple's eldest son, is now the prime minister of Bangladesh. He received the two commemorative photos of his parents from the US ambassador.

Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and Foreign Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir were also present at the meeting.
