Australia cancels visa of Islamic speaker Ahmadullah amid controversy
Shipon Ahmod in Sydney:  Australia has cancelled the visa of Bangladesh's Islamic speaker Shaykh Ahmadullah over allegations of anti-Semitic and provocative remarks, following a recent similar move against Mizanur Rahman Azhari, also a Bangladeshi Islamic speaker. Shaykh Ahmadullah, Chairman of As-Sunnah Foundation based in Dhaka, was scheduled to speak at a number of events in Australia.

His visa was cancelled by the Australian Department of Home Affairs on April 5.

Ahmadullah was scheduled to attend events in Canberra, Adelaide and Perth between April 6 and April 11.

Australia's Assistant Immigration Minister Matt Thistlethwaite confirmed the decision of the Department of Home Affairs.

"We will not tolerate people who spread anti-Semitism or Islamophobia," the Assistant Minister said.

Referring to Azhari, who was deported earlier, Thistlethwaite said visas are revoked when authorities become aware of controversial statements.

According to media reports, Shaykh Ahmadullah made remarks critical of Jews in past discussions in Australia, which drew backlash. He allegedly made comments linking global unrest to Jewish conspiracies.
