Jamaat Ameer warns against politicizing Islami Bank

Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has expressed disappointment over the government's order to send Islami Bank Managing Director on mandatory leave. Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that any attempt to politicize Islami Bank will lead to anarchy in the entire banking sector across Bangladesh.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman blamed the ruling party for clutching Bangladesh Bank by placing BNP loyalists in the central bank top posts. The Jamaat Ameer warned that Jamaat-E-Islami will not sit idle if the government continues abusing power.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman made the above comments while addressing a seminar as the chief guest on referendum results. It may be added that Bangladesh Bank instructed Islami Bank Managing Director Omar Faruk Khan to go on a mandatory leave on Sunday. It may be recalled that Islami Bank has been always regulated by the ideology of Jamaat-E-Islami. Notorious financial racketeer S. Alam was allowed to gobble up Islami Bank during ousted ruling party Awami League's tenure from 2009 to 2024.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that Islami Bank earns the largest portion of foreign remittances from expatriate Bangladeshis. He commented that spoiling Islami Bank will jeopardize the total banking system in the country. The Jamaat Ameer stated that Bangladesh's patriotic people will baffle evil quarters' conspiracy to occupy Islami Bank.

The seminar was held in the Institution of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh on Monday. It was presided over by Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish Ameer Mamunul Haque. The speakers at the seminar called upon the government to recognize the results of the referendum and to implement the July Charter soon.
