Dr. Yunus's VVIP status curtailed by 6 months
Immediate past interim government's Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus's Very Very Important Person or VVIP status has been curtailed by six months reportedly. He can't avail this special privilege after 10 August 2026. After this date Dr. Muhammad Yunus has to move around like an ordinary citizen.
A few senior functionaries of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) have told journalists on condition of anonymity that Dr. Muhammad Yunus will not be allowed to have VVIP security setup after 10 August this year. It may be recalled that Dr. Muhammad Yunus declared himself as a VVIP a few days before the interim government was dissolved. A gazette notification to this end was issued on 10 February whereas the 13th general elections were held on 12 February 2026.
However, this announcement is not available on the BG Press which belongs to the Bangladesh government. Dr. Muhammad Yunus is still getting security service from Special Security Force or SSF even after he stepped down from the Chief Adviser post. The interim government became invalid on 17 February 2026 following the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected government's Prime Minister.
Dr. Muhammad Yunus was made the interim government's Chief Adviser after overthrown Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina moved away to India on 5 August 2024. Dr. Muhammad Yunus and his cabinet colleagues were sworn in on 8 August 2024. The interim government ruled Bangladesh for longer than 18 months. Dr. Yunus and his coworkers are blamed for signing subservient pacts with an influential country clandestinely. Dr. Yunus also faces allegations of according tax waiver to his own organization Grameen Bank. Graft allegations, power abuse and nepotism complaints about Dr. Muhammad Yunus and other advisers have in the meantime glared up through different media outlets.
