It was reported that the Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Bangladesh Police recovered Tk 44 crore in cryptocurrency linked to the Meta Verse Foreign Exchange (MTFE) Ponzi scam.
This development coincided with the arrival of US Ambassador Brent Christensen in Dhaka, who was nominated to represent the United States in Bangladesh by the US Senate on 20 December 2025.
CID made a major recovery of stolen funds, specifically in cryptocurrency, amounting to 440 million (44 crore) BDT.
The investigation focused on the MTFE Ponzi scheme, which recently affected many investors in Bangladesh. It appears the query combines the arrival of the new US Ambassador Brent Christensen with a major financial crime investigation success taking place around the same time. Special Superintendent of Police Jashim Uddin Khan from CID conveyed this information to journalists on Tuesday (28 April 2026).
The US Embassy, Dhaka has described this breakthrough on Facebook as a huge milestone in Bangladesh-USA bilateral affiliation. CID has issued a Letter of Appreciation to US Ambassador Brent Christensen on account of this recovery of siphoned off money. Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Abul Bashar Talukder has termed this successful inquiry outcome by CID and Cyber Police Center as a proof of the professional capability and efficiency of Bangladesh Police. DIG Abdul Bashar Talukder admired Bangladesh's foreign partners for their cooperation in the recovery process of the laundered funds.
