Four-day DC conference begins today

The first deputy commissioners' (DCs) conference under the BNP-led government is set to begin today.

The DCs of 64 districts, eight divisional commissioners will take part in the four-day event to be held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to inaugurate the conference at 10:30 am.

A total of 498 proposals submitted by divisional commissioners and DCs have been shortlisted for discussion out of 1,729 initially received.

These proposals prioritise public service improvements, healthcare expansion, infrastructure development, tourism promotion, and legal reforms.

Addressing a press briefing at the conference room of the cabinet Division on Saturday Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani said, Deputy Commissioners will get guidance from ministers about the present government's policies and priorities in the conference.

DCs serve as the government's representatives at the field level. The conference sets the strategy for implementing government policy initiatives, development programmes and other activities over the following year. 

Providing details of this year's conference at the press conference, Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division Humayun Kabir said this year's DC conference will be held for four days, a day more than previous years 

Humayun Kabir said, Divisional Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners will pay courtesy calls on the President, the Speaker, and the Chief Justice. Additionally, working sessions will be held with the Chief Election Commission and the Anti-Corruption Commission."

He informed that a total of 34 sessions will be held at this year's DC Conference. Among these, 30 will be working sessions, and the number of participating ministries or divisions is 56.

He said, Deputy Commissioners have submitted 1,729 proposals to the government on different issue related to governance. 

Out of those proposals 498 have been included in the working papers. The highest 44 proposals came related to the Health Services Division.

He added that the main discussion topics of this year's conference include land management, law and order, local government, disaster management, employment, social security, e-governance, education, health services, environmental conservation, infrastructure development, and monitoring of various development activities.
